Hyde Park Art Center

5020 S Cornell Ave

Chicago, IL

Pentimenti Productions, the film company behind the critically-acclaimed 2014 documentary Hairy Who and The Chicago Imagists and the upcoming 3D film-in-production, Cliff - on sculptor H.C. Westermann - is pleased to collaborate with the Hyde Park Art Center on two upcoming filmmaking workshops. The first, Filming Art 101, will be an intensive, single day crash course on how to activate artwork cinematically. Through illustrative examples from documentaries and artist films, this interactive class will explore dynamic techniques for using cinema to create narrative intrigue around paintings, sculptures, and performances; however, the curriculum is designed to be beneficial for filmmaking of all kinds.

This class will appeal to: documentarians interested in cultivating art-centric filmmaking techniques; artists, curators, and conservators who wish to learn best practices for using video for documentation and marketing purposes; and first-time filmmakers looking for a crash course on production essentials. The class is free and open to the public — all experience levels are welcome, although all attendees should be 16+. Equipment will be provided by Pentimenti Productions and HPAC, and will take place on Sunday, August 27th, from 1 to 4pm at the Hyde Park Art Center. To register, please email Harrison Sherrod at harrison@pentimentiproductions.org with your name.

The second of the two workshops will be a more comprehensive documentary video boot-camp, from Oct. 8th to 29th — stay tuned for more details and registration info!
