Hairy Who & The Chicago Imagists will screen on the campus of California State University Sacramento  on Thursday, December 4th.

CSU Sacramento holds a special place in the history of the Chicago Imagists. Jim Nutt and Gladys Nilsson lived in Sacramento from 1968 through 1976, where Nutt was a member of the CSUS faculty and Nilsson also taught. Karl Wirsum was also on the CSUS faculty between 1971 and 1973. Although the artists' time in Sacramento was relatively brief, their teaching and shows at local galleries including the Candy Store Gallery in Folsom, made a lasting impact on the area's art scene.

Hairy Who & The Chicago Imagists will screen at Chicago's Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art on December 11th, 2014, followed by a discussion and Q&A with Lisa Stone, Philip Hanson, and Barbara Rossi.

Lisa Stone is curator of the Roger Brown Study Collection and adjunct associate professor, both at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She will talk with Imagist artists Rossi and Hanson about their engagement with works by self taught and folk artists, and objects from popular culture––an interest shared by many Imagist artists.

The screening coincides with Intuit's exhibition Collective Soul: Outsider Art from Chicago Collections.
